Above are FEE NOIRE and FALCON on the MAGIC STONE at KISSING HILL in the English Style Parc of TARTU city right in the center of it !
FALCON age 4 months old july 2011 walking the Capital City TALLIN CALM like an ESTONIAN...and kissing with Estonian Lady...who said Estonians are unemotional ?
CAPITAL TALLINN WALLED COLOURFUL MEDAEVAL CITY IN THE WEST ON THE BALTIC SEA ... WHERE THE 1ST CHRISTMAS TREE STOOD IN THE 15TH CENTURY FOR A BURNING CEREMONY...LOL...YES WELL SAUNAS ARE HOT HERE TOO OVER 100 CELCIUS...OR HAVE A MUD BATH...THE PRISTINE NATURE AND PEACE OF FAMOUSLY SILENT PEOPLE IS RELAXING TO THE SOUL AFTER THE HUMDRUM AND OPPRESSION OF LIFE IN THE CITY...and the capital city was appreciated by FALCON, FEE NOIRE and NANA, lovely place.
Well, could write much, but right now, Sunday 17th July 2011 FEE NOIRE, FALCON and NANA are on a lakeside campsite OFF LEADS totally free amoungst the other people and dogs here at the Guesthouse also at KALLASTE, 40km east of TARTU City also a wonderful colourful university old city with much to see including the indoor Botonaical Gardens, Gunpowder and Toys museum and today we want to visit ALATSKIVI CASTLE conceived on seeing BALMORAL CASTLE in SCOTLAND GB. and sunday 17 JULY 2011...AMAZING...TOURIST OFFICE IN KALLASTE LETTONIE meaning ESTONIA if not French IS OPEN AND EVEN HAS FREE WIFI AND COFFEE AND FREE TOILETS besides helpful advice and directions to the SANDSTONE CLIFFS on the lake here and other places like the Old Believers of Russian Orthodox Christians with crafts
Then i want to visit ESTONIAN AGRICULURAL MUSEUM just south of TARTU city to see history of tools and ways of farming over the centuries.
HOLY LAKE - PUHAJARV or is it PEIPSI-PIHKVA ? guidebook of tourist office is vague...booklet called "NEVER FAILS TO AMAZE" well tourist offices never amaze me with their lack of knowledge of anything...the one in Tartu yesterday said they had run out of POSTAGE STAMPS and were giving out maps to tourists drawing directions to the Post office...sigh...why don't they save time and paper and GET OUT AND BUY SOME themselves i thought...but hey...at least they were open on SATURDAY .... not like in many places like LITHUANIA UTENA hey....or most of Europe in fact, Tourist offices work hours to suit the workers in most places and sour faces if at weekends generally...if even open...well this lake is is in Eastern Estonia, Europe's 5th largest lake...where is that ? i wish Guidebooks would put maps and names to things they talk about...i think Balaton in Hungary is the biggest...PSKOVSKOE is our lake here some 40km long bordering Russia in the middle of it ! wait...it depends...what name is on what map for this huge lake...PEIPSI is also a name of it...aha...UNSPOILT NATURE...Russian OLD BELIEVERS museum and villages along the coast...jaja...well JAH is YES in ESTONIAN i just read ...i got horribly lost on the long straight roads to these clustered villages of various colourful houses the night i arrived...at LAST found a village with SIGNS for HOTELS and CAMPSITE here aKALLASTE in the morning ! Lithuania could learn from that ! SIGNPOSTS MATTER !
Now 1 interesting fact, statistic, is that Estonia land area, small country, Baltic Nordic Urgu-Finnish like Hungarians language and people...is the most DENSELY METEORITE CRATERS place in the world ! now of course we all know JURASSIC PARC nasty dinasaurs were extinct after one landed in South America Mayo land area, so i wonder, who was destroyed by these in Estonia ? how come they landed here so much ? Attractive to Meteors place hey !
Now. Let me stop all this TALKING, WAFFLE and be more stereotype ESTONIAN and SHUT UP and just let you enjoy pictures etc....first Nana new haircut done in colourful TARTU city to reduce effect of heat of summer...hairdressers in Lithuania could not be found in shopping centres and then were not bothered...

and in TARTU there is a MAGIC STONE on KISSING HILL besides the statue of 2 students kissing in front of the town hall main square...on the ancient hill mound TOOME area full of intersting old houses and a hotel next to railway artchitecture buildings that accepts dogs...need to provide coffee mind you...and OSCAR WILDE Irish Writer of Ulysees now has competition in DOG WEBSITE writings and FEE NOIRE and FALCON as well as another WILDE Estonion writer and this statue has a copy now in GALWAY IRELAND i read...i like Galway, West Ireland...
Now of course the Tourist Office of Tartu had stamps afresh by Tuesday visit, and i must add, that good quick service to repair my clutch plate damaged due to reving my car excessively to get out of a bog road that on a tourist brochure was said to be a car road passing through all villages on this special coastline at Tartu Main Garage for my Mitsubishi Shogun was unfortunate and a lesson that DIRECTIONS and SIGNPOSTS for TOURISTS need improvements generally in Estonia also. Maps for example often have MAIN ROAD names and miss out any smaller roads, totally unhelpful when walking to find places, and the wonderfully situated HOTEL VAKSALI 4 - ok, not exactly a very original name to nave the name of the STREET for hotel name, but very good rooms and bathrooms and kitchen dining area for use of guests immaculate...and ALLOW DOGS but 10 euros per night per dog i warn...20 for humans per room...so i was not happy about that...and of course you always get a guest who objects anywhere that humans are in close contact i add...well this hotel of the Ancient Railway Housing and Station where goods trains still function shame not normal trains currently july 2011...the location here is near the METEOR CRATER PARK and HUGE MOUND of ORIGINAL TARTU which leads straight to the Modern lived in Tartu City center. This is a picture of the Hotel...pale pastel colours inside fresh feeling, but a historic old Railway Hotel...
So. Now to go again in the wonderful relaxing streets of TARTU with so many parks where my dogs ran free off leads everywhere...much appreciated...and the food in the main street at a cafee called AMORE something to do with LOVE anyway in latin type name...ah yes, TARTU is called the CITY OF GOOD THOUGHTS...well, not many cities have such an imaginative and friendly motto i say to that...all helps...ah this cafee for 6 Euros did me a Cafee Latte, Pea Soup and Omelette...amazingly good quality and price i add and no objections to my dogs lying quietly at my feet outside at my table. THEN to the ESTONIAN AGRICULTURE MUSEUM AT ULENURME shit, all in Estonian website...never mind...shit brochure does not state opening times or days...sigh sigh...Tourist offices do not seem to be making much effort to produce things of use to tourists like that anywhere it seems in Lithuania or Estonia .. forget Latvia, the roads in Latgale the eastern lakes area were blocked by construction works in progress of course so I ended up having to get to Estonia via capital of Latvia in the Western part of Riga, which i do not like as a city i add...anything to do with lack of SIGNPOSTS maybe hey ? Well, this is such a shame to have Lithuania tourist office in UTENA producing all brochures except an a4 size leaflet in LITHUANIAN language only, hotels and places to rent have NO SIGNPOSTS or SIGNS outside them either to help tourists or travellors there...at least ESTONIA has managed that better i note...saw many campsite signs immediatly on entering Estonia from Latvia which seemed to be a BASKET CASE area to me so i left faster than intended. I met some Germans on a coach tour from STADE in HAMBURG here in TARTU who chatted with me at the tourist office...yes i know Stade, redbrick town outside Hamburg...who said KALININGRAD where one lady was born was just AWEFUL nowadays and was amazed that i was travelling alone, but i replied, ICH BIN NICHT ALLEIN !!! ich habe meine HUNDE DABEI ! je ne suis pas seule, j'ai mes chiens avec moi ! I am not alone ! i have my dogs with me ! And i must add, when people go on holiday, i do not understand why they do not have the pleasure of their dogs with them, as it is QUALITY TIME together, and the dogs enjoy playing and relaxing just as much as the human owners....and having your dogs with you means you can talk to them and enjoy the sights as you stop and look at things while they sniff and read the dog newspapers en route...and you walk such lovely parcs and riversides...oh well Tartu could do with cleaning up the area near the huge expensive hotel and market next to it where alcoholics seem to gather to sit around and leave bottles in the river...what is the name of this skyscraper monstrosity ? ouff...hotel name of OLD TARTU CITY NAME...ouff...names...DORPAT ! JAH ! manager at Hostel Vaksali 4 just reminded me. There is supposed to be only 1 public outside of cafees and bars area where you are allowed to drink alcohol in public in Tartu, like it is in Canada for that I add, but this area is not it ! now disappointed there are not ENGLISH VERSIONS of ESTONIAN FAIRYTALES by Tartu writer FRIEDRICH ROBERT FAEHLMANN 19th century...I like fairytales, having a FAIRY DOG of course and living a Fairytale ...
And since i have spent such a pleasant time in TARTU i will upload later tonight ALL TARTU and even LAKE PEIPSI and villages along the coast of KALLASTE etc in a special album to link here.

here are a few videos ! the second one is 22 minutes long...
quick narrative summary of feelings and thoughts...
well highlights, notable events or thoughts anyhow.
fisrtly the forest area around village of ORAVA is still after several drives and stops in this at least 10km stretch of pure uninhabited tall pine strees and walkable forest area a marvellous peaceful place. the stmosphere is just wonderful. now a couple of metoeors landed here, 2 it seems and we went to one signposted. maybe atmosphere has to do wtih selction of the meteor location
everything for visits like this meteor crater and the puisa sandcaves and hills is excellently done with paths and steps of quality and even wood figures to enjoy on the walk there. the visitor center of the puisi caves in fact is so nice with a conference room with real wood carves chairs of the national estonian tree, light coloured. and the photos of the bats...thousands come to the caves and the great crested newt a special protected species...well and teh cafee too does good cakes and coffees and the atmosphere is relaced and peaceful
now the museum at VANA-VASTSELIINA of medaeval house upstairs and down with a tapestry that is modern but ancient with symbols of the big bang....is a delight to walk around smelling of fresh wood..i learnt it had been only open 1 month...so i am very lucky.
the dogs and i are all happy running freedly all around the museums without any objections at all. other visitors seem to calmly ignore them or take great delight in their attention and watch them having a great time running over the sand at puisi and greeting people happily in return for attention to them
it is acutally very good education for the dogs the puppy falcon in particular as well as people to have cntact with dogs in all sorts of places. ok a 10 euro cost to me when the dogs grabbed some inflatable swimming aids of kids and punctured them of course...but it was the opportunity to scold the dogs and make them understand toys of others are not theirs and they must let them go at once on order...the dogs need only 2 such lessons it seems for all sorts of things...like barking at other dogs who bark at them...that has stopped now on the campsite now...falcon was very stubborn and refused to stop facing head on in his face through fending of wire a guard dog barking madly at him until i dragged him off on the lead...feja watched and bit him also as punishment for this and understands when i am annoyed if he wanders off and does not come at once when called...other lessons...feja mostly is a pest for rushing off after people who make sudden moves or run...she charged at 2 cars in a fury and falcon copied her a few hours later so both have had scoldings for that and i lost my temper with them and now it is easy and understood if i say in advance...no chasing of that car or person....if i see them looking like they are about to do a charge of the light brigade. barking at each other and jumping and snarling in public places is also a no-no, and they have understood this, only when we are alone. they adore charging out of the car when we stop and running in the lakes or just forests together.]] both also enjoy and get excited at me taking the leads and collars t0 put on them before getting ou of the car if in a town..they know this means a walk etc so are happy about it and walk well o leads together sniffing around etc stopping now and then etc
whAT ARE Brarans from munich doing dancing finnish and other country folk dances in rapina today doing ? and lithuanians seen in coachload at museum at obnitsa somewhere arrived on our campsite also..
campsite is more expenseive than switzerland...15 euros per night...i took 2...no prices displayed too the girl asking mother in house a few times to get anywhere...and no idea how to use sauna if possible...no help...tourist office cant speak english in spa town of varska...and does not therefore help with accomodation when i asked...i found a campsite by chance...and some car asked me directions to russia this morning at 8am...i was able to be precise as i keep getting in the quess for it at every end of road around here...
RE: the OAK...TAMM in Estonian ...see pictures of chairs in my new CONFERENCE ROOM at NO COST to me i add...hey i like my new offices !!!! PUISA SANDCAVES and dogs digging sand...well Falcon is....
yes correction, falcon refused to STOP FACING HEAD ON a GUARD DOG ADULT who was foaming white froth at the mouth he was so annoyed at this upstart confident unafraid puppy barking back at him right in his face through a fence...feja watched silently looking at me knowing i disapprove of such behaviour...then to my HORROR she JOINED FALCON with her more FEROCIOUS BARKS and GESTURES at the dog...sigh sigh...the dog nearly had a heart attack...
needs much editing additions and picked out special picutures and commentaries...
well just found brochure of museum of middle ages just open 1 month and lady and daughter run...dressed in costumes and air con...dogs off leads sch...told them they would be on leads in museum...and the tapestry....just wait for the pictures when the effin camera battery charges in at least an hour useless kodak fo that
now...it is a VASTSELIINA but on map there is another name of town down road, this one is \? f""" what is the name ?
i should have come here earlier as the museum of puisa caves will shut soon...not enough time for videos of dancing lithuanians and germans...amazing hey...
and...i found out...the flowers the women 500 meters away at this great museum did not know but now i do that no were not linen flowers but cornflowers...and that is a national flower of estonia....
national symbols ...INFORMATION FROM WIKIPEDIA...WISH TOURIST OFFICES PRODUCED AS GOOD CONCISE AND INFORMATIVE STUFF AS THIS HEY !
In addition to the three main state symbols, Estonia has chosen her own national flower and national bird. Estonia even has her own national stone and national fish, which seem to be a rarity among other national symbols. All four have gained official status.
 National flower
The campaign to choose a national flower was organized by The Estonian Wildlife Protection Society. The televised contest was carried out in 1967-68. The ornamental blue cornflower was the favourite. In choosing it, several considerations were taken into account: general popularity, decorative appearance, easy applicability as an artistic motif, and domestic origin.
The cornflower has grown on Estonian soil for more than 10,000 years, from the time when the first humans came to Northern Europe. The plant grows commonly in rye fields, creating a strong connection in the minds of Estonians between the flower and their daily bread. The blossoms of the cornflower have a particularly striking graphic appearance which has led to its use by artists for decorative purposes. The cornflower is also part of the young girls' festive garland. It is possible that the cornflower was chosen as the national flower in 1968 for another important reason. People knew that the blue of the then forbidden Estonian flag was defined as "cornflower blue". This made the cornflower a symbol of resistance in its own way. The Soviet authorities, in a move that is nowadays quite difficult to believe, responded by banning representations of the cornflower. Thus, at the 100th anniversary of the Estonian Song Festival (1969), all the cornflowers used as decorations were painted over with red and presented as "carnations".
 National bird
The barn swallow, the national bird, is a characteristic guest of Estonian homes. Its call can be heard from practically every eave or barn rafter in the country. If the bird finds a suitable opening, under the ridge of a roof or a broken window, it will build its cup-shaped nest; it will even build it inside a house. The choice of the barn swallow as a national bird was mainly the result of a campaign conducted by ornithologists at the beginning of the sixties.
 National stone
Estonian national stone is the country's valuable grey limestone. Estonia lies on a thick layer of limestone which is visible on the steep banks of northern and western Estonia. Most castles, churches, farm buildings, and countless stone fences are made of limestone. Research on limestone and its well-preserved fossils has for centuries brought Estonian scientists international renown. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why numerous scientists supported the declaration of limestone as the national stone of Estonia.
 National fish
Estonian national fish is Baltic herring. In the online poll to select a national fish, which attracted 50,000 voters, the pike won by about 500 votes. The group behind the idea was the Estonian National Fishery Association. A panel of judges overruled the vote on the grounds that as a traditional staple of the Estonian diet, the Baltic herring has been more important for more people through the country's history. Baltic herring has been near Estonian coast for 5,000 years.
 Unofficial symbols
As in any other country, there are a number of other objects in Estonia
which have symbolic value without any official decree. Oak, for example,
has long been regarded as a sacred tree. Estonia lies in the northernmost
zone of its occurrence. Mixed forests with oak have given the country its
most fertile humus soil.
Various buildings and their details are regarded as of national value. Among them are the Old Thomasweathervain on the spire of Tallinn's Town Hall; Toompea Castle, together with its mighty watchtower Pikk Hermann and the Hermann Castle on the western bank of the Narva river, which has long constituted a border between the East and the West.
Many of the above-mentioned symbols were represented on coins and banknotes of the Estonian currency. All coins carried the three lions of the coat of arms. The one kroon note beared the image of Toompea Castle. The two kroon note depicted Tartu University. The five kroon note presented Hermann Castle facing the Russian Ivangorod castle on the eastern side of the Narva river. Estonia's mightiest oak was pictured on the ten kroon note and so on. The highest denomination, the five hundred kroon note, carried an image of the barn swallow in full flight.
The symbol of Estonian fight for freedom is the core of theCross of Liberty,
aha...cave website only in estoniana...surprised not in russian too like most things around here...english is ZERO in tourist offices for brochures etc...
strewth...have a page done in english...
well did not make it back there today....was going to go to see some craft exhibition...never mind saw bavarians dancing instead...
now...all these pictures on the quality camera to be uploaded...and videos...of all sorts...and then put on webpage of estonia of course...estimate 3 hours work to do...so not going to manage it today....
and dunno where we are sleeping tonight...giving that campsite with sauna i dunno if i can use a miss now...might try campsite if open next to this puisa museum it is an organic farm as well...
and latvia brochure found here in VARSKA tourist office...amazing hey...promoting like lithuania LATVIA instead of helping about their local accomodation etc things....says there is a visitable GOAT and aRABBIT FARM in LATVIA EAST...but the roads were shit...so dunno if i can get there...
sigh...would like to stay here a week actually...but not at more than swiss prices and no use of sauna and no mudbaths...no tourists except RUSSIANS are really targeted in my view here...
cant understand anything really about estonian and the russian...oooh the rotten museum of varska just down the road on the border...open only 12 noon to 5pm daily...ooooh....waste of time went there 2 times already now and looked in windows...dunno why so difficult to open...only a few houses there...that is not tourist friendly at all
CONFERENCE ROAM OF OAK CHAIRS AND SAND FLOOR AT PUISA CAVES SOUTHEAST ESTONIA NEW OFFICES OF NANA FEE NOIRE AND FALCON !

24th july 2011 - NANA FEE NOIRE FALCON at the over 800 years old oldest OAK TREE - TAMM - IN ESTONIA !
we are still in South east Estonia, SETO region. Now i love this forest area around ORAVA whre the METEOR 2 craters are....and the CONFERENCE ROOM of the PIUSA SANDCAVES complex is so friendly to us allowing us use of the sand floor conference room filled with chairs of oak and people enjoying the dogs...but we could not find anywhere to stay this night, and did not wish to return to difficult and no facilities other than bathroom for shower in the house of the campsite where wifi even did not work...needs a key maybe...no signs for any campsite shown on the good tourist attractions map provided by the puisa cave people either....the one which states organic farm...maybe sign taken down, or not offering accomodation....and this is the problem now. apart from the hotels and campsite full of Russians at VARSTA town and unhelpful tourist office shut anyway on Sunday...we wandered off to see the town up the coast as no access to the biglake around here...must be part of Russia i think...the Russian chap who we spoke with in a queue waiting like many lorries with cars to go into Russia told us the town we wanted to visit beginning with P was in Russia and said the coast up north was betterr....so we want to see the TAMM the OLDES OAK of ESTONIA over 800 years old...said to have evil spirits...but when i hugged it...my mind was full of spiritual thoughts..thinking all those centuries this tree has lived...and it is beautiful and so nice to see the green leaves so fresh still on it that no the spirit of this tree made by God must be good and wise...
It took us until 6pm at night to find it...hardly signposted until 6km away...and on the way we saw some beautfful sights unplanned...one the Castle of SANGASTE which is not even marked as a tourist attraction on the ESTONIA TOURIST MAP ! yet it is huge and a major castle gothic style the naturalist imp;ortant aristocrat owner built it when disappointed in love that his GB fancy woman father did not approve of a wild eastern match to marry for his daughter...so he copied Windsor Castle it is said for this castle built...does not look much like it to me i add...and the gardens are full of plants from all over the world...but the staff taking coachloads we saw again did not react to the comment 3 times made by me that toilet paper was missing....one replied people could use the hand drying paper towels but i informed that this too was missing..sigh...they did not reply at the 3rd remark of mine...well Windsor Castle needs toilet paper for people paying to visit i think. when no tourists were in the staff were not busy at all, and we could not even get a coffee even though we sat for ages at a table waiting. sigh.
We did not find the 2nd oldest oak as the signs stopped and many tracks lead off the initial path...i tried one...then decided the METEOR CRATER on ISLAND off west coast 100 meters wide needed visiting so spent another few hours around badly signed tracks and roads until we found town of OTEPAA where 3km out of the smart chic full of hotels town we saw sign to CAMPSITE !!! and what a DELIGHTFUL PLACE to find, a guesthouse and we had a beed in a wood house and COFFEE FOR BREAKFAST OFFERED without even asking !
Now KARULA NATIONAL PARK was visited on our searchings for the OAK of course....VORU, ANSLA towns also....and surprisingly a lovely Church colourful that was supposed to have the Special celebration day in the village of..MONISTE where we did not find the marked Open Air museum of course signs ran out...but found this church that had NO SIGNS of ANY such stated celebration and like all churches was LOCKED. Shame about that. Shluld make CAFES and RESTAURANTS in them i say to open them and invite tourists and travellors needing refreshments into them. I do not understand why no one puts up signs in windows of houses or in gardens stating COFFEE and ROOMS for stays...seems to me people do not want to have tourists here, someone said privacy was important to people, well of course ! but GB etc is FULL of people who enjoy privacy AND making welcome guests from afar needing a place to stay I say to that !
URVASTE hamlet is where the oldest oak tree, national symbol of ESTONIA is. NOT that it is signposted from anywhere except 6km away i add, making it hell to find. A hotel receptionist at kaarku hamlet where there was a huge complex of sportlike facilities like pedal bikes for the lake there said 35 euros for a room and 7 euros per dog to my question...well i did not like it there and needed petrol which was at OTEPAA she told us so we did not stay and the man at OTEPAA guest house and campsite did not say a price but waited for me to offer ! so i offered and he accepted 25 euros ! Very nice people here indeed. There is a lake for swimming 300 meters away, a swimming pool type lake on site, and lake to walk along where dogs rushed in even FALCON who FELL IN this time and looked very unhappy covered in green algae from the shore he thought maybe solid...lol....and we would stay here if this METEOR CRATER visit on island SAAREMAA were not important....and i want to go back to PUISA and the METEOR ORAVA forest area where i had such vivid DREAMS ...but town on sea of HAAPSALU i read was a favorite of composer TCHAIKOVSKY i adore so i MUST go there to feel atmosphere too. That is opposite other island of HIIUMAA. PARNU is on mainland town summer resort...probably full of crowds...i prefer more space to myself and for my dogs to run around so not likely to go there.
VILJANDI national park and town on the way to see of course. But the ORAVA FOREST area is still my favorite. POLVA was flattish open countryside landscape more and i did not like the man at this ROAD MUSEUM which seems an odd museum to have trying to tell me to tie my dogs up at some special post across the road if i wanted to visit it...which i did not...i was looking for the Peasant museum not found of course...and since the cafee sold nothing but beer not food he said was not stopping there. Now VORU town was slightly interesting, full of wooden houses and on a big lake, and a museum found that seemed interesting if it had been open before 10am to visit but that is too late in the day to hang around for when we have an OAK to find by 6pm hey ! There were no sounds of church bells on a sunday i add....and this church at MONISTE so colourful and Lutheran of course like most seen was not open and no service evidence seen. Estonians are said to be very SECULAR meaning simply NON REPLIGIOUS in my opinion. So the SILENCE of the CHURCHES is heavy and disappointing when they should LIVE with the spirits of people in them enjoying COFFEES and MEALS in particular.
Now interesting to say, apart from the 1 small wooden hut like apparently typical of region Church opposite the museum at Obniste village in SETO area, while driving around searching for accomodation and food like restaurants which there are none of as stated in Seto area except in the hotels probably of the SPA town for Russians...we did see one or 2 others...in the track road hamlets around there....and an amazingly HUGE RAILWAY complex of i think GAS supplies and transport...there is a railway active for goods in that area. HUGE QUEUES again of trucks parked up with many CARS on them waiting for access to Russia at many entry roads here too.
Maybe there would have been some cafee-restaurants open in the town starting with P in Russia we wanted to visit ! It is amazing as i said to the woman in the castle of SANGATTE visited who kindly let me charge my camera battery...darned nuissance ...runs out after half a day of use...good to have the other kodak little slimline camera that takes 99000 or more pictures email quality and great videos although no zoom possible as well due to that...as i said to her, as she was defending the tourist office at VARSTE town i was complaining about...well yes...i missed the 23rd july 2011 SONG OF SETO event there !!! she could have mentioned that ! had she spoken English ! or even if a POSTER ANNOUNCING this had been visible anywhere in the town and area ! so i saw BARVARIANS that HAD POSTERS of that even dancing at RAPINA town intead ! good beaches on the huge lake PSKOV which seems an extension oflake PEIPSI to me ! it is joined. NO cafee on the major beach however I add. Having a coffee and snack is not easy in Estonia I say to that ! It is easy really, should be, put a piece of paper in the window of your house with a picutres of a BED and tel number and price - and picture of a CUP OF COFFEE like the EXCELLENT OPEN 7am to 10pm shop in town of ? must find name on photos had...and it will MAKE VISITORS WELCOME as well as make INCOME easily for everyone who offers such service and hospitality I suggest ! OOOH i had 1 unpleasant exchange with a woman at some market type stall just alongisde a church not open in some small town....? name ? who from a distance of say 30 meters as i approached with my 2 dogs on leads thinking to see if i could buy some food at the few stalls in sight....shouted some words at me, i replied i spoke English...so she yelled something about my dogs...i replied they do not speak English....she ranted some more...so i replied EFF OFF laughed and walked off in a different direction with her shouting EFF like a parrot back...well no sale needed there...and it was a 1 off...some people are just looking to have a bad day i say to that...so she got one...she was having one anyway...so i just added to it...no one else was anything but pleasant or ignored my dogs who bothered no one i add. Many enjoyed stroking them, taking photos of them playing etc. As one should. Well, I am not going to carry on joking when my dogs are insulted for no good reason ! MOST people ENJOY watching them i add, and even more when they get affection from them when approched nicely i add. The dogs bark madly at anyone approaching the car like a man about to ask me for a cigarette i add last night outside a bar shutting in OTEPAA around 9pm...ooh la jah, he did not get to ask me the dogs were heads out of the window in fury at him...very protective, and if he smellt of alcohol that also annoys dogs i add. I just have to say the words to say hello to strangers and the dogs react friendly i add. I did not bother with this man of course, or a few other people sometimes - when i cannot be bothered listening to whatever proposal anyone is about to me to me, i just let the dogs bark ! lol ! The dogs love it of course, feel very important doing such a useful job.
DOG ISSUES ON CAMPSITES in HOTELS: challenges faced: noise of other people and dogs, disturbance by other people and dogs, sleeping quarters, toilet arrangements and timings, eating arrangements and timings.
Picking up when seen dogshit is a must. Being WATCHFUL for when this occurs is a duty, not too onerous, about 3 times per day my dogs eliminate shit usually. First thing in the morning when they go out regular - so easy to pick up immediately. Then a few times in the day. Afternoons generally. Weeing is more frequent. Therefore stops in car say at least every 2 hours is essential for this need. Dogs become agitated if they wish to do this, so move around whining in car as a sign of wish to go out.
People and other dogs are not problems, my dogs do not seek aggression but are curious and happy to see other dogs for a sniff and general interest like most dogs when allowed to. Just as humans are curious to look at other people etc. Dogs are in fact more social and friendly as a general rule when seeing other people or dogs as possible new aquaintances.
Sleeping - well my dogs sleep easily anywhere new. On the floor, their choice. I put a rug of theirs down but they like cool surfaces especially in the current daily hot temperatures of 28 degrees celcius as the norm since weeks here in the Baltics, sometimes even 30 degrees ! that is very hot for dogs. Car windows as we drive are open for breeze and cooling effect. Even in the shade the car can be very hot so never left in car for more than 10 minutes when danger of heat rising is obvious.
Eating - well dry industrial dogfood is the only way. Both have it always readily available in the car in bowls and when stopped overnight left for them to eat as and when they please as my standard. They eat in the late morning and early to late evening of their choice i add. Maybe a little in the afternoon.
Stopping them try to eat other people's smellt food and going into rubbish bins is a challenge and need to be watchful for. After several yells and taking things off FALCON he is understanding i disapprove of his thieving greedy puppy foxy behaviour. He is a gourmet for sure ! anything rubbish bones etc on the ground is always an attraction to dogs when out walking. Even FEJA. So this needs controlling. I will reinforce this need to stop my dogs eating things off the ground in time i think. It irritates me most of all that it could give them stomache upset problems if old decayed meat for example. No one has tried to give them food i add - so no problems here with that - as i do not want my dogs pestering afterwards people as they would naturally for more at tables etc. Dogs should eat from their bowls the food provided to them that is good for them in my opinion. I sometimes give them CHEESE of buiscuits of mine that they enjoy, but i am irritated if i am eating and they are both watching me expectantly as it disturbs me and i have eaten a few times away from them outside the car to have peace from this.
Reactions to my dogs ? well firstly i have to repeat that i am in the BALTIC STATES - NORDIC - SCANDINAVIA - why ? because there are stronger than in Latin countries like FRANCE LAWS about dog behaviour in public here...muzzles are required by LAW for medium to large adult dogs even in public streets and parcs, and obligatory if using buses or public transport...so ? well i see NO muzzled dogs anywhere i must say, most on LEADS when in streets or parcs - so i do not put muzzles only LEADS on my dogs when in the streets and i let my dogs loose when in public parcs....i have seen NO SIGNS saying DOGS ON LEADS in public parcs i add. I allow my dogs OFF LEADS on campsites and in hotels/guesthouses. Too much trouble with no hands free is the reason, and my dogs do not tangle people when in close quarters when free of leads is the reason for that as well as letting them have the freedom to sniff and walk around as they please. People have not reacted to this at all i must say. Sometimes i see people look around to see where the owner of the dogs is and when they see me sometimes make a comment about how spectacular the dogs are and ask what breed they are or stroke them and my dogs react with affection towards them unless busy with a sniff of something interesting so i speak to the dogs so that they pay the people attention which they are very happy to do not having noticed they were under observation ! lol !
My dogs like to watch out of the windows as i drive or mostly sleep. In hotels or on campsites, after investigations, my dogs stay close to me. We wander around and play ball etc out of the way of other people quite easily. Swimming - i instruct my dogs not to enter water if there are very many children and people there - to avoid people getting splashed by them ! otherwise the dogs seem to avoid rushing around splashing people of their own accord i add. I see no reason why anyone should be offended or disgusted by dogs nearby on a beach or in water where there are people ! my dogs choose naturally of their own accord to go shit at a distance away from me and other people ...maybe they want PEACE to do this hey ! and i watch and pick up any shit of their where they have gone to do it at once and bin it it a tied pouch. I do choose bins away from entrances to hotels or shops i add, dogshit smells, and sometimes it is a problem to find bins to dispose of this when walking streets of course and i do not like carrying a smelly pouch long of course ! If we stop in the countryside that is not a public used place like a field i do not pick it up here i add.
A few but hardly any, very few children appear alarmed at seeing dogs - my dogs seem to sense this and do not approach them - Falcon puppy used to at first but now does not, i called him away sometimes if i saw him about to approach children to greet them - both dogs seem to notice children easily and are attracted to them to greet them i add in comparison to little interest in adults in the same way. One man at a campsite just spoke a few words to me after Falcon the greed had probably sneaked off to where he was barbecueing and maybe tried to get something...so it is important to instruct and keep dogs away from barbecue areas that smell nice of meat ! all the man said was to get my dogs away - which i did at once. There have been no screams of horror or people stopping in their tracks at just the sight of dogs running around I add ! I do ensure my dogs are at say at least 50 meters from crowds of people if they are in hyper running around moods ! Falcon being a little BARKER i have to take toys off Feja sometimes if she is running with them and he is annoyed at not being able to get hold of them from her .... if it is too much i add or too late or early in the day for such noise...otherwise i let him woof and run in the day as part of the game he and Feja have for that.
Organisation, of the car and bags when out walking is essential. I have to have a little bottle of water and 1 small dish for dogs drinking water always when out walking in towns in particular if more than 30 minutes in the heat of summer now. In the car, i often stop to offer water to drink to the dogs in this heat which they do often. Falcon the most i add. He has puppy hair still so must feel the heat more than FEJA who has adult summer coat now. Both dogs are BLACK however so feel the heat more than lighter colour dogs and both are LONG HAIRED so also suffer from heat more for that reason. Dogs sweat from paws and mouth only, not skin like humans, so it is important to have drinking water available often to them and i do. I brush both dogs every few days only. They get their tails and fur a bit full of grasses from lakes and fields easily being long haired dogs so this helps. Grooming them seems to please them i add, like a massage ! i make sure i make it enjoyable for them giving them attention process in fact, like stroking so that they enjoy brushing/combing. I have not found any tics on them since early may and june when in Lithuania i add - and have treated with liquid spot on products every few weeks for this just in case. Worming tablets also given every few weeks, one can never be too sure about this when dogs eat things that might have worms in them when out so much everywhere.ALWAYS HAVE PLENTY LITTLE POUCHES in car and IN POCKET for this DUTY for HEALTH AND AESTHETIC reasons when with dogs...it is NICE TO SMELL FLOWERS NOT DOGSHIT OR HUMAN SHIT OR PEE ! the latter is very prevalent in most MODERN CITY CARPARKS EVERYWHERE IN THE CIVILISED URBAN WORLD IN EUROPE OR ANYWHERE I GUESS but EUROPE ESPECIALLY ! not enough OPEN FOR HUMAN TOILETS and TOO MANY DISGUSTING HUMANS i say about that !
I would not leave my dogs in a hotel room when i go out I add. The TARTU city hotel we stayed at mentioned this was against hotel rules there, but i had no intention of leaving as some do he said to me dogs in a hotel room while i went out. No matter how easily my dogs adapt to new places we stay in, this is not their home and my dogs are so used to being with me except when i go into food shops or a few museums - yes i do not visit many museums anymore due to dogs not being allowed in them nowadays for what i consider unreasonable unfounded reasons - dogs are hardly a danger to anything in museum if on a lead and certainly not going to SHIT or PEE inside anyway ! it would be unfortunate if the only time dogs chewed the furniture anywhere it was in a hotel room they were left in !!! lol ! oooh lala ! imagine that hey ! you go out thinking your normally no-chewing of furniture dogs will just SLEEP as most dogs do much of the day...and you return to find the chairs bedding etc of the room have entertained them enormously during your absence !!! well i do not think my dogs would do that, i think they would BARK however at strange noises heard when alone in a strange room - which of course should not disturb anyone in the daytime - but you never know - and the chewing danger is enough to say do not test the dogs for this risk in a hotel room alone ! I did have the problem that after the 1st night in Tartu hotel my dogs became very protective of the entire hotel, and barked furiously at some new guests arriving when we were in the reception area - not pleasant - had to be ordered to stop it by me. This is a common problem i have had with FEJA since a puppy even when we stay an hour in a bar somewhere in France, she takes POSESSION of the bar and people in it during that time it seems, and anyone NEW arriving is resented and confronted with barks ! sigh. Falcon has a love of LYING DOWN or SITTING right in the DOORWAY of places we stay ! so he becomes a nuissance for that sometimes if it is a passageway in a hotel or bar ! FEJA of course always prefers to be lying down at my feet, Falcon however seems to take a SENTINEL position as his norm everywhere and DOORWAYS are a huge attraction to him for this !
Now on a campsite, or at a guesthouse, having 2 dogs in particular a now 5 month old only puppy is of course an experience for everyone aroound. The dogs are CURIOUS of course to aquant themselves with the new territory sniffing around the garden and area and room we stay in. They rush around playing with each other and me or anyone who joins in, then settle by me lie down calmly on the watch also however when no sleeping. At night, they are more defensive, and any strangers coming in not investigated are barked at unless ordered not to. Once they assess what they consider their territory they seem to wish to remain in it and keep a watch on things going on. Being MORNING types - my dogs and i - it means at 6am we are up greeting each other and rushing off for play and runs and swims...for about 1 hour...then we settle and i do my ablutions meaning shower teeth wash breakfast and internet pictures. The dogs lie by me and are happy to rest a while and investiage things and people wandering around. The only challenge is to stop them barking in excitement at each other as they play tugs of war with toys or squieeky balls of course...6am is early for other people on campsites for those kind of noises ! lol ! SCHHH !! and taking the squeeky things off them is often needed therefore to keep quiet enough for others to sleep.Other dogs of campsites are of great interest to meet with, a few barks from FALCON puppy still is the norm, but he shuts up fast if the owners let the dog sniff and even play with him...not that any have done so i add in Estonia...most have them on leads and not willing to release them to play with other dogs. My dogs have each other however to play with, so quickly lose interest in dogs on leads not able to play with them. If a passing dog however, more problematic as they go into guard dog mode and bark and face them if not recalled. Both dogs however now respond well to order to return and leave the strange passing dog alone i add. FALCON has also stopped kicking off with huge barks at any barking dogs in the distance...sometimes something in the tone of a distant barking dog however makes both my dogs become alert and growl or bark - those are dog songs...not understood by humans, i say calming words to them in such events to stop the barking but they remain alert often. At other times, barking dogs in the distance do not bother them and there is no reaction. Passing barking dogs in gardens is now less a problem with Falcon who loves by nature to confront face on via the fencing such aggression. He has never actually had a bad experience of another dog attacking or rushing at him i add as Feja did when 2 months old in a public parc in France, so he does not know the danger to a puppy from an adult dog for that, he just dislikes being barked at ferociously from dogs in gardens of course, but after some experieces of that he has learnt to ignore dogs in gardens behind fences easily especially on order to leave them alone from me. So a good learning experience for dogs generally. CARS of course always concern me, but i must say, as just now as i finish this recit, my dogs seem to avoid them, apart from the occasional wild chasing behind one that leaves say a campsite or carpark we are in that has got me yelling in fury at them to stop and come back...when cars now passed in the road unfenced by the campsite neither dog goes to the road and comes to me when i tell them to to make sure they do not get in the path of the cars...they watch the passing trucks or cars i add...and i say words to them about DANGER CAR, MACHINE also to try and teach them to take notice of such dangers. I need to work on this more i think, when crossing roads on leads, both dogs seem to notice cars and wait at the kerb for my order or words to cross the road before doing so also. FALCON in particular since his bad experience of being chased by 2 motorbikes at our lakeside in Lithuania a few weeks ago is very wary of moving motorbikes and their noise and comes quickly to my side or looks at me for reassurance if when walking such vehicles pass close or approach us.
SLIDESHOW OF PICTURES OF IT ALL TO COME SOON...A BIT OF TROUBLE WITH WIFI AT MOMENT...SOME NEED KEYS...NUMBERS ETC THAT DO NOT ALWAYS WORK...OTHERS DO NOT CONNECT EVEN WITH KEY...BUT THIS PIZZA BAR NOW WORKS WHERE THE TOWN HALL SERVICE DID NOT AT ALL ...TIME LOST...AND DETAILS OF GREAT GUEST HOUSE OF LAST NIGHT TO COME...TEL 509 7908...3KM FROM CENTRE OF TOWN VERY SMART CHIC TOWN WITH LAKES AND MANY HOTELS AND CAMPSITES IN CENTRAL ESTONIA I THINK...ANYWAY...WHAT IS NAME ? DAMM...NOT TAMM MEANING OAK IN ESTONIAN BUT DAMM CANNOT RECALL NAME OF THIS SMART TOWN...OUFF...AH SEE IT ON WINDOW OF THIS PIZZA BAR...OTEPAA..
now over 700 photos i have done in less resolution to upload faster while my dogs are in car...it has been 28 degrees celcius regularly all the time here so too hot for dogs in car more than 10 minutes even in the shade as they are of course with windows open...
slideshow of more of ESTONIA / LETTONIE BALTIC COUNTY SCANINAVIA NORDIC...
aha...found on the TARTU city provided tourist map of Estonia that this famous here castle is not marked on...website for VISIT ESTONIA ! http://www.visitestonia.com/en/
well i did not PLAN to come here...just decided...that if I do not do it now, not being able to progress with my land in Lithuania home developments until formally approved...i will not do it...we always say...oooh we will come back and see this or that NEXT IME...but life is a variable...and we move on...other priorities, things to see...and we should DO IT NOW...except...this place...ESTONIA...is really best for COACH TRIPS ORGANISED...not lone travellors trying to just stop over to eat and sleep generally without planning in advance...and even if you did...you would spend HOURS finding what you booked as SIGNPOSTING is appaling practically USELESS here for things as ESSENTIAL AS THIS !
And WHAT IS the ESTONIAN CULINARY cuisine ? i have NO IDEA ! no RESTAURANTS seen to eat in ! except those maybe in LARGE HOTELS ! i said and asked a lady at PETROL STATION who sell AMERICAN STYLE BURGERS with COCA COLA bottle...as STANDARD...why not LOCAL burgers ? she did not say why...j'ai demnade...pourquoi pas des trucs LOCALES a manger en vente au lieu des truc Amercains BURGERS et COCA COLA ? la dame ne m'a pas repondu.
En fin de compte, at the end of the day, FOOD MATTERS and HOSPITALITY for VISITORS who bring money beside RUSSIANS of course ..and for a country...whose COMMAND of ENGLISH is SO GOOD...it is a missed opportunity...
DOGS HAVE REPLACED THE TSARS ! BREAKING NEWS FOR ESTONIA !!! FEE NOIRE AND FALCON - SAKALAS ! SEE WONDERFUL BUT DISUSED NOW RAILWAY STATION CLIENTS ! AND MY DOGS HAVE GOOD MANNERS AND LOVE ESTONIANS....THE MOST IMPORTANT PICTURE IS THAT ONE ! OF GREETING SOME ESTONIANS AT HAASPALA ! SEASIDE RESORT OF OLD AND NOW !
JULY 2011 - PARTIAL LOG TO BE COMPLETED WITH EXPERIENCES OF ESTONIA TRAVELS WITH DOGS....
going to island of snakes name...HORMSI...as intended however was a non starter. we arrived by car well in time, saw signs above each lane for booked....nothing saying other than that...i parked, went into a complex and then found a bar ,,,, not a tivket office then saw machine for tickets....wen my turn in queue came i saw nothing but foot passengers no car...there are 300 CIRCULAR GRAVEYARD CROSSES on this island ancient ! and SWEDISH conquerors and rulers type housing...yes the GOLDEN AGE....MIREILLE MATHIEU French Singer is coming to ESTONIA in AUGUST lady serving at hotel where i am having breakfast in POLVA town just said !
i drove back and joined queeu got out of cwr csar and asked a few people they did not know then i found an offiicial he said get tickt at booth by ln lanes i said but the time of boat leaving is five mins time he answered no it is ok then it turned out hthere e were no spaces for another cqr you had to book in advance ...oh and when i was waving to get the car behind me to reverse to let me out of the booked queue it took me getting out of the car and yelling about HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO UNDERSTAND WAVING AND REVERSE LIGHTS ON MEANS REVERSE ? sigh...and then i could not go to the SNAKE ISLAND...so i had to drive 60km further down the coast where boats left to the larger island from.
any way...LOADS of WRITE UPS of all the STORIES AND EXPERIENCES OF ESTONIA are to be done...major thing to do besides sorting photos to make a special nice interesting account of my stay here
my inteniton...is to STAY AUGUST here...i just rediscovered ROUGE village and 7 lakes and walks and the nightingales and sandstone valleys...the dogs love it there...plenty walking...quiet...and behind campsite there is OPEN FIELDS where they can RUN AND BARK at 6am when others are SLEEPING of course...this is a major reason for me AVOIDING hotels and campsites i add....the DOGS NEED TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES !
in a hotel in PULVA horrible town...but not as bad as what the lady in tourist office of VOLGA said young people say about VOLGA...bom crater town...delapidated...unemployment high...near LATVIA i say to that ! ... but the only place for hundreds of km where you can get a coffee before 10 or 11am in the morning...not even anywhere in ROUGE opens for cofees before 10am...i was told in HAAPSALU by a FINN who are the major tourists here due to prices lower and lingo similar if not the same exactly he failed to persuade them to do business in PEAT HEATING the bogs are huge with peat..anyway he said FINS do NOT CARE ABOUT FOOD or COFFEE and also said language teachers of English have to remind FINNS and ESTONIANS who it seems are missing words like PLEASE AND THANK YOU in their language to say it as priority when speaking English...the german i think anyway spoke German with 3 SCHNAUZER DOGS...great photos...one 9 months old...huge....the German said ? can't remember what i was going to say...except his dogs were ON LEADS unlike mine...
ah, he said get a huge camper van like his was...i was saying i like idea of the VW small campervan....and i don't like big things...this puppy is a heavy little elephant...and ugly duckling that i adore and he adores me.
AHA another STORY of many to come....CONFUSION ABOUT DOGS when getting OFF the BOAT...and FEJA does not like boats...was not at ease realising ship was moving...Falcon oblivious and happy i add...the 20 minutes crossing was over so fast i saw cars GETTING ON the boat and so started to look for my car realising it was time to GET OFF....and this man said pointing at some HIUGE METAL CAGES...PUT THE DOGS IN THERE ! i said NON ! they are GETTING OFF THE BOAT WITH ME ! WHERE IS MY CAR ? why did no one COMMUNICATE the TIME OF the crossing to me ? he answers...are you alone ? thinking maybe there were MORE IDIOTS like me with dogs on his boat to get off ! i replied NON ! my DOGS ARE WITH ME ! he ignored me after that. There was another slight problem with FEJA refusing to climb narrow metal steps up to the very top of the VIEWING TOWER after escalator travel up...she did eventually...but like hte ship...she senses she is not on firm ground and resists...Falcon of course refused being so FAT and not good with puppy legs and BARKED the entire time while i went up to look at the views...316meters above sea level the highest point in ESTONIA add the tower of 300 meters that makes 600 meters. The HEAT was so hot i was irritable and smacked Feja in fact in irritation so made things worse of course...she was licking me and trying to stop me going up of course by refusing to go up herself...sigh...dogs hey....i did not enjoy the SAUNA of glass structure creating enormous heat...most WALK to pay half the 4 euros cost the lady told me...well I WOULD HAVE LOST 10 KILOS easily doing that so i should have done maybe....
ROUGE IS GREAT ! AND LIHULLA colourful lovely town just 50km about inland from HAAPSALU which is on the COAST where we saw KALININGRAD SUPERB OPERA SINGER and listened to VIVALDI 4 SEASON CONCERT in the DOME CHURCH OF CASTLE concert in FULL...the DOGS LOVED it and me too...and ROUGE area with Hiking paths and 7 lakes all walking distance of each other and "soignee" whatever the English for that word is meaning chic...is WONDERFUL !
Now...off to speak to these OLD BELIEVERS about WHERE IS THE FOOD ? the FISH WITH ONIONS ? yes going back up the Eastern Front...Coast i mean...of PEIPSI LAKE....and then back to see METEOR CRATER OF DEVIL..
by the way...WHY are ALL things like that in Esonia attributed NEGATIVE SPIRIT NAMES ? At ROUGE there is WITCHES LAKE for the main lake, there is the DEVILS CRATER at ORAVU and even the BIG CRATER on Island SAAREMA is attributed as the path to hell and i saw in the north WITCHES WELL and the Oldest Oak at Urvaste is said to have evil spririts...etc...well I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU !!! FAIRIES ARE HERE TO SPEAK TO THE ALLEGED EVIL SPIRITS AND THEY ARE FINDING NONE !FEE NOIRE means BLACK FAIRY for those ignorant of French ! and not all things Black are NEGATIVE i say also in case BLACK FAIRY conjures up NEGATIVE THOUGHTS !
Now, no more stories for now. must dash...camera charging while i write in hotel where all the Russians have finished their breakfasts of course...no appreciation of GOOD FOOD like PORRIDGE i have had 2 helpings of here ! PESA in town POLVA
HOTEL PESA breakfast with unlimited food and cofee cold and hot less than 4 euros cost and MORE coffee offered by lady i was boring no doubt with my talk of DOGS etc...is big, and in the middle of the most unlikely position for a luxury hotel...surrounded by appartment blocks ! but...A HUGE NEST OF STORKS ON THE CHIMNEY DISUSED NEXT TO IT view from garden terrace and ON THE TOP OF APARTMENT BLOCK ALSO a STORK ! sign of HEALTHY ECOLOGICAL SYSTEM ! so ! not only FOXES that come into TOWNS hey ! in ESTONIA THE STORKS DO TOO !...
must put picture of the CRATER and TROLLS STATUE so DROLE a French word meaning FUNNY DROLE ! TROLLS ARE DROLE ! in the only TOWN calledKuressaare on island of SAAREMA in the south of it...at the harbour...not mentioned in ANY tourist publications I add ! worth seeing ! makes you smile ! oh never mind the trolls...we saw PREHISTORIC STONE CIRCLE GRAVEYARD and FORTRESS MOUNDS AND EVEN BUILDING of centuries age and STORKS and...and...the island is FULL of things to visit and see ! and the STORM and THUNDER and LIGHTENING on Thursday evening did not stop us !
ah...PICTURES ON MAINLAND ESTONIA GORGE OF HEAVEN ! SOUTH OF TARTU AGAIN ! we were the only passengers on this boat ! so lucky ! at Ahja !
STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN TO CAMERAS IN GORGE OF HEAVEN...PICTURE SEEMS STRANGE....REPLACED BY THIS BETTER ONE...
Now having rediscovered ROUGE hamlet south of VORU town which although not nice has a beautiful tourist office building and on saturday the church was open to see cheerful yellow coloured interior that brightens things.....we visited the gorge of sandstone forest walk at HAANJA looking of course for the NIGHTINGALE mentioned valley where in spring birdsong is so loud in the early nornings...EARLY LIKE THE LARK the saying goes...well although mentioned and we did ask some people from TALLIN on visit here where this was but they could not find it on any maps of the area - we stopped here to try and do the 3 hour walk along the 7 lakes mentioned also on the boards for tourists...but got stuck at the Great Lake, Witches lake so called not finding the path to continue...yes...so we decided to go find the HEAVEN GORGEactually called HOUSE OF HEAVEN which i do not like, it is a GORGE in my view, a valley in river with cliffs...mentioned in the hotel brochure given kindly to me of PESA in POLVA town also horrible as mentioned except for the surrounding nature is wonderful...and instead of finding the LEGENDARY STONE of ESTONIAN HERO KALEVIPOEG at allegedly OOTSIMAGI HILL in MAMMASTE subburb of POLVA as mentioned on the brochure of hte hotel...which the lady at the tourist office did not know of...and at the end of the day after asking a RESIDENT of MAMMASTE itself he said he had never heard of this stone...so it is a LEGEND....this KALEVIPOEG - author born in VORU - like King Arthur legend had a SWORD read about in brocures about KAALI METEOR crater....he threw a ROCK at the CHURCH in POLVA which missed it and it is known as SLING ROCK...well this sounded ex citing to see...but instead we found a WONDERFUL FOREST WALK at MAMMASTE where the winter ski slopes in the forest are a great ramblers delight. KANEPI village 20km south we tried also to find JUDAS TOWN mentioned in the same hotel brochure legend about a man who took all his clothes off to avoid the ANTS eating him as ghosts also guard underground treasure...no such place...the KANEPI place we found and a teacher there at the opera concert in church listened to said this was legend also.
so i will make a SPECIAL ALBUM of this to show ESTONIA in 4 SEASONS perfect exemple...no GB writes EXAMPLE not EXEMPLE as in French and in the toilet of KIIDJARVE i learnt the word for THANK YOU in ESTONIAN and more words from this lady who let me play the Russian PIANO there..she did not speak English but we spent time understanding each other and she told me the WATER MILL lovely building just seen there had been bought by an ESTONIAN Mcoffee, pronouneced COUGHAN RETURNED from GERMANY where he had been since age 3 but he was local and it is a lovely photo of it better than mine ...
IMPORTANT ESTONIAN WORDS as provided by lady in library of KIIDJARVE juste somewhere east of POLVA....on a lake...
KOHV = .coffee, pronounced COUGH
PALUN = please...ah, just edited out by mistake the words for THANK YOU and YES AND NO...well THANK YOU for coffee AFTER 10AM seems a bit DESPERATE to me i add...
Now in a forest just off the main items on map where we reached a dead end trying to get to the lake to the EAST the huge one PEIPSI...i stopped and we rested and enjoyed the peace of the forest that is so wonderful eerywhere in Estonia...and i had another vivid dream...and the last words in the dream as i awoke were me saying to someone THEY NEVER LIKED ME...and i heard the whispering of the wind in the russling trees of the forest saying to me in my thoughts...healing...healing.
This was the second or 3rd time...that the trees have spoken to me via thoughts i have suddenly in my mind. The 1st time was in the forest of ORAVA where i dreamt a vivid dream...the 2nd at the Oldest Oak of Estonia at Urvaste near Sangatte castle....and now the 3rd time. It was full daytime, warm, and i just felt tired and wanted to sleep to the dogs and i slept an hour or so in the forest calm and happy. Refreshed. I am surprised and a little disturbed to have had such vivid thoughts and dreams.
Now the 3rd mentioned place in this brochure was a deep river at KOORVERE and treasures are hidden in a kettle...you need to hitch 3 stallions to get the kettle on midnight new years eve it says...no one has managed this...and we found however WONDERFUL places a MANOR at MOOSTE just nnorth of POLVA and then at last A|HJA after giving up trying to find the lake coast after MOOSTE and AHJA is just PERFECT for FOREST WALKS and the RIVER and G gorges of SANDSTONE an HEAVEN GORGE is lovely...and discovered a village not marked on any maps called KIDJARVE on a LAKE with lovely LIBRARY open on SUNDAY and the lady gave me a SET OF HER FANTASTIC PHOTOS OF KI KIIDJARVE VIEW OF LAKE AND FOREST IN 4 SEASONS !! a VIVALDI !!!
I wewnt back to PESA hotel to mention all this legendary places we had been on wild goose chases looking for...the lady at reception used google to look it up...this stone thing...and found nothing...so i said...correct the brochures as other tourists might try to find these placesmm that are legends very nice to know about nevertheless...i really owuld like to find an english language book of this national hero robin hood maybe type man KALIVIPOEG...but throwing stones at churches seems a bit harsh ! what was he annoyed about ? is that why Estonia is very secular ?
Now i must mention a cofee and BREAKFAST the next day after the hotel PESA breakfast at a village called....??????? anyway, i found this exceptional and we had food well before the 11am advertised opening i add !
I must say, i was tempted to stay at AHJA area having FOUND unlike at ROUGE the forst paths easily with signposts and explanations of things so welcome to read...but...my wish was to return to KALLASTE and the 1st weekend in August is SETO KING CROWING at OBNITSA i read and I must visite ALL the coast of PEISI LAKE and eat the OLD BELIEVERS FISH AND ONIONS meal also not found on 1st visit.
Well what a coiincidence ! just as i was about to write that the BEST SIGNPOSTS IN ESTONIA are CYCLIST PATH SIGNS....yes i use them since VARSTE in fact the ORAVA area to find was best understood looking at the BIKE SIGNPOSTS ....this man at campsite WALLIPU where they accepted me again last night informs me that HE ORGANISES BIKE TRIPS and the SIGNPOSTING in Estonia so next time when Falcon puppy legs are better, this is the way to see ESTONIA by BIKE ORGANISEDhttp://www.bicycle.ee/ and has done a Video for sale of this wonderful for cycling country !!!
Now he had a LAIKA dog, very clever, and dead of cancer unfortunately after operation 2 years later. I was saying to him, i talk now a great deal more to my dogs, just say what i am doing and thinking and they seem to understand....he said his dog was the same and had great sense of time also. And a Lithuanian lady with child last night here was off to OTEPAA or someone was....and i said there were plenty campsites hotels etc there and we found great place just 3km outside of the main town.
Now this CHURCH and RELIGION thing in Estonia. Ok now I have at last found HEAVEN GORGE at AHJA village south of TARTU City about 1 hour...well less if you manage to find signs to get going in the right direction i add...and that is good after Devil Crater and Witch Lake things but again there are many negative things about spirit world...like the WHITE TOWER at HAAPSALU city town castle a woman walled up to death for bing in love with a clergyman that legend now a ghost...and i read POLVA town is named after a woman also walled in a kneeling position in a church wall ! there seems to be a lot of walling up women !
Now it is surprising, that tourist offices all seem to have different maps and brochures of Estonia ! the one is VALGA border of Lativia town had ones in FRENCH and teh onnly one that sold brochures about ESTONIAN CUISIINE ! now that was interesting to me. AH the RIVER IS CALLED EMAJOGI that goes from Peipsi lake to Tartu i read. Sigh, soupire, but what is the river/lake name the most beautiful around AHJA called ? now again i am irritated to read that there are STORIES of LITTLE ILIMAR by FRIEDEBERT TUGLAS of this area...but nowhere do i find English language books of these Estonian Stories. ....oooh..Falcon has just BURIED HIS DENTAL BONE sigh...what an idiot...instead of eating it as FEE NOIRE is doing to hers...that is how i lose, waste things i buy for the dogs, Falcon likes to bury things when not wanting to eat them at once.
MUSTVEE is a MUST to visit, as i read in a recent boochure about his OLD BELIEVERS area along the shores of PEIPSI LAKE that ...ooh FEE is off to UNBURY the bone of FALCON...that this little village has the most per inhabitant CHURCHES there...1 per 250 people originally...so some churches to see at least 5 there it says....itis caled the TOWN OF CHRUCHES 5 were active the last century. It is signposted as you come out of TARTU following signs to NARVU or some NORTHERN COATS of Estonia city....KALLASTE is only signposted after say 10km further along the highway i add...irritating that i ended up wandering around TARTU city again to get to KALLASTE having driven from AHJA south of it hoping to take a right TURN BEFORE TARTU itself ! such is life...but i would have missed the HUGE HORSE STATUTUE AT VILLAGE EAST OF TARTU LUUNJA which had no explanations about it and nothing read in any brochures about it but it seems a nice statue to me in the middle of a huge lovely green parc.
PARCS in villages are great in Estonia. ALL villages have this PARCLAND area in the centre it seems to me with trees and a great place to walk around with dogs off leads off course.ah, i note there was a spring at the HEAVENS GORGE at AHJA which heals eyes and brings happiness if washed in it so i used some of the cold water lol...but on this peipsi coast there is also another positive thing at a place called ...well something to do with christianity and water that is miraculous and icon...
onwards...to EAST COAST not NEW YORK but OLD BELIEVERS country ! where the 1st weekend in AUGUST meaning THIS WEEKEND AHEAD at OBNITSA they crown a NEW KING ! one a year i read ! hilarious !
